As per census 2001 village population is 5913 with total 882 households. Agriculture and cattle feeding is the main source of income. Number of BPL families - 22.
Cultural Significance:
This village is said to be the afternoon resting spots of Krishna. The old Name of this place was Brihad Vishram Sthal. That means a bigger place to rest. Sanatan Goswami - one of the main followers of Chaitaya Mahaprabhu did his worship and penances here. This place is also very famous for Teej Huranga.On this occasion Gopas (boys) of Jao are beaten in the streets of the village by Gopis (ladies) of Bathain by lathis (bamboo sticks) and the boys hold shield in their defence. One day before of this occasion the similar huranga happens between Gopis of Jao and Gopas of Bathain. The ladies of Jao use lathis to thrash the men of Bathain. Witnessing this wonderful play leaves a sweet impression in the mind of a visitor.
